Foggy weather isn't always a bad thing. La Jolla, California at sunrise.

Here's another image from sunrise at Emerald Bay. A small aperture creates the sunburst effect as the sun peeks over the ridgeline.

Sunrise at Emerald Bay in South Lake Tahoe (on the California side). The photography Gods were good to me on this glorious August morning.

I've been shooting lately with the Sony A7r. I haven't seen the reported shutter vibration issue yet but I have had several images ruined by the optical image stabilization while on a tripod. I stupidly forgot to turn it off, which can only be done with the Sony/Zeiss 24-70 lens through the camera body. Learned that lesson the hard way. The camera is fabulous. It is so easy to use. I don't understand why DLSRs don't have similar features like focus peaking for easy manual focusing, zebra patterns to make it easy to see blown highlights (though credit to Nikon for including zebra patterns in the new D810), built-in wifi, an EVF that enables a histogram overlay...and that compact size! The Sony/Zeiss 24-70 f/4 lens is plenty sharp for me. The only real problem is the horrific distortion. Fortunately that is easily correctable in Lightroom.
This image was taken in La Jolla. I cannot get enough of gorgeous ocean sunsets.

Brown pelicans will frequently stretch their pouch to keep it flexible. It's fairly easy to get a picture of this. They all do it. It just takes a little patience and planning: find a place with a nice background (the La Jolla Cliffs in San Diego is an ideal location) and...wait. That's it. More pelican images can be seen in my gallery here.

I just returned from Olympic National Park. What a stunning place. It's really three parks in one: temperate rainforest, mountains and coast. The rainforests are my favorite location in the park. I visited the Hoh and Quinault rainforests. The size and density of the trees are remarkable. Mosses hang from the trees creating a scene like no other in the United States. I'm already thinking about my next visit. I have added a gallery for some of my favorite images from the park here.

There were several Bighorn Sheep grazing in the snow in Lamar Valley. They were quite unconcerned with my presence, though I remained at a safe distance so as not to risk putting any stress on the animals. Every now and again they would pause and look around, occasionally making eye contact with me. Purchase this image here.
